IPOB Is Planning To Invade Calabar Tomorrow - Ohanaeze Ndigbo Raises The Alarm

By Eyo Charles (Daily Trust)

The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Cross River State, Mazi Ugorji Nwabueze, has raised the alarm that there are plans by sponsors and leaders of outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to invade Calabar, capital of Cross River State on October 2.

He said they were coming under the guise of installing the Eze (king of) Igbo in the state, an action he said the Obong of Calabar and other kings of the land had objected to.

Nwabueze raised the alarm in a letter to the security adviser to Governor Ben Ayade and copied to the Department of State Service (DSS), AIG Zone 6, commissioner of police and Commander of 13 Brigade of Nigeria Army.

Nwabueze, who is also the special adviser to Ayade on Non-Indigenes Affairs (Igbo), said a certain group of Igbo in violation of the order from the state government were coming to Calabar purportedly to inaugurate a faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

He said the National Headquarters of the Ohaneze Ndigbo had denied knowledge of the event, advising security agencies to be alert.

He said he was surprised that despite that in 2018 the South East Traditional Rulers Council, which is the custodians of the culture and traditions in Igbo land, had abolished the title of Eze (king of) Igbo in diaspora, certain persons were still bent on it

“It is obvious that such gathering, considering the fragile security situations in our neighbouring Igbo states, there may be infiltrations of unknown men capable of rupturing the peace of Cross River State,” he said.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Considers Resigning As WTO DG, May Contest For President In Nigeria

Just seven months into her four-year tenure as the Director General at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), there are reports that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is growing frustrated with the workings of the organization and has floated the idea of resigning if no headway can be found on critical issues.

According to Bloomberg, five trade officials, who declined to be identified, reported that Okonjo-Iweala has fully grasped the frustrating reality of the WTO’s historical inertia, and has considered quitting.

The officials said that she has repeatedly told ambassadors and staff that she could easily walk away from the job, and reminds them she hasn’t bought any furniture for her temporary home in Geneva.

But in a statement to Bloomberg News on speculation that she wants to run in the 2023 Nigeria’s presidential election, Okonjo-Iweala didn’t comment about her threats to resign but denied any interest in running for the Nigerian presidency, calling such speculation “utterly ridiculous and not true”.

She added: “I just got here. I am enjoying what I’m doing. It is a very exciting job and I am trying to have some successes here.”

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala began her tenure with a plan to score quick negotiating victories that she hoped would help reboot the dysfunctional Geneva-based trade body.

Observers note that her early departure would add yet another layer of chaos to an organization suffering from an existential crisis that may lead governments to conclude that WTO is not a credible forum for addressing their shared challenges.

Deep divisions and a lack of trust are not new for the WTO, which requires consensus agreement among all 164 members to finalize multilateral accords.

The WTO’s rigid negotiating structure and disparate interests of its diverse membership have precluded the organization from delivering anything substantial for the better part of the past decade.

Last year, Okonjo-Iweala’s predecessor – Roberto Azevedo – cited the lack of progress at the WTO as his primary reason for resigning from the organization a year before his tenure was scheduled to end.

The true test of Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership will come later in November, when she hosts the WTO’s 12th ministerial conference – a gathering of the organization’s highest decision-making body.

To date, WTO members have failed to make significant headway on the three priority areas Okonjo-Iweala identified for potential outcomes at the biennial meeting. These are: an agreement to curb harmful fishery subsidies; a pledge to reduce trade-distorting agricultural policies; and a framework to expand global trade in vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church recently released a prophecy about Buhari and the country ahead of Independence as Nigeria clocks 61 years.
According to him, God said top government officials will be kidnapped. The Taliban will reinforce and attack before Buhari administration elapses and the North and Abuja will be at the crest of it.
Primate Elijah Ayodele also added that corrupt officials will be exposed, bandits and terrorist leaders will be captured.

In his words, “Our 61st independence anniversary has no meaning, there is no development, the government has done well but the poor are not enjoying it. There is too much death, bloodbath, and more is still coming. What the Lord said to me that we should expect in this new independence year is that the level of corruption in this government will be exposed and some bandits leaders, ISIS, ISWAP Leaders will be captured’.

“In this New Year, some governors will regret being governors because of issues they will be facing especially in the north. There will be so many things exposed and several serious accusations.

“Let us also be prayerful, I see bandits kidnapping people in the top hierarchy. There are places they want to attack in the north and Abuja. Let the government pray on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October to save Nigeria from all unnecessary threats because there is going to be a new terrorist group with sophisticated weapons

“We have to pray more for our security issues because the Taliban will reinforce in this New Year and there will be a major attack before the end of this government.”

The prophet spoke about the economy of the country... “Nigeria will still battle with the economy as I see political assassination that will involve a prominent politician.

“EFCC chairman will be incapacitated because of his techniques, he will get a lot of information but they will use him for political reasons so he must be careful,”

He also spoke on the security turnout... “There will be a crisis in customs, some officers will be queried of some illegal operations.

“Let us pray against the death of any commissioner of police.

“Nigeria will still battle with the economy as I see political assassination that will involve a prominent politician.

Most Nigerians Want Islamic System Of Government - IMN Leader, Sheik Zakzaky

Sheikh Zakzaky

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky revealed that he is confident that the majority of Nigerians will choose the Islamic system of government over the neocolonial system of government.

This is just as he accused the Federal Government of gross violation of his fundamental right by being disallowed to travel out of the country for treatment despite his deteriorating health condition.

The Islamic scholar made the statement while responding to questions in an exclusive live programme with the Iranian Press TV monitored in Kano Wednesday evening, being the first interview he had with the media since his release on July 28.

“Even after the incarceration, we are still in another incarceration since they have refused to allow us to travel outside the country.”

The scholar also stated that the Islamic Movement is being democratic by simply seeking for the Islamic system of governance as against the neocolonial system in the country today adding that it is the choice of the majority of Nigerians if a plebiscite were to take place.

“I believe that if there will be a plebiscite in this country and people will be asked ‘which system would you like? Is it the status quo, which is inherited from the British colonialists or the Islamic system?

“I’m sure that the majority will choose the Islamic system. [Because] it will be the government of the people after all,” he added.

Zakzaky said, although, the authorities in Nigeria strictly forbid any such vote, he did not rule out the prospect of the establishment of such a system in Nigeria.

“However, this depended on the people being given the choice” similar to what happened in Iran with the referendum that followed the victory of the country’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.

“Nigerian authorities admit in private not in public, that they fear the Islamic Movement and the potential that it may help establish the Islamic system just as the Revolution in Iran.

“But all the IMN is after is democracy. What is a democracy? It is the government of the people” he said.

Boxing: Match-Fixing Scandal Trails Anthony Joshua Vs Usyk Fight

Match-fixing scandal trails Anthony Joshua vs Usyk fight

Boxing fans have claimed Anthony Joshua’s fight against Oleksandr Usyk was stopped early, with the British boxer looking on the verge of being knocked out in the 12th round.

Joshua suffered only his second career loss against Usyk on Saturday night.

The Ukrainian won with a unanimous points decision, to become the new heavyweight champion of the world.

Usyk had Joshua on the ropes in the last 30 seconds of the fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fans have now claimed there was a discrepancy between the nine seconds left on the on-screen clock and how quickly the fight ended.

As shown by DAZN, the final nine seconds seemed to end in just three seconds with Joshua helpless and close to being knocked out.

One said: “They rang that bell 5 seconds early lol, saved Anthony Joshua from a 12th round KO,” and another noted: “Is it just me or did the bell go early in the 12th round?”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has, however, moved to quash the rumours: “I don’t believe it did, I saw that it did on the DAZN clock but I remember specifically the ten seconds came and it was ten seconds.

“Because I remember hearing when there were ten seconds to go, it wasn’t three seconds after the clock went so I don’t believe that was an early bell.”

C'River PDP Assembly Members Drag Speaker, 17 Other APC Lawmakers To Court For Sharing Their Allowances

Rt. Hon. Eteng

ByJoseph Obung

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA), who refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dragged the speaker and 17 other members who defected, to court.

Recall that 18 House members had joined Governor Ben Ayade in APC as soon as the governor dumped the umbrella party. Seven member however remained with the PDP.

The suit filed by the seven PDP members came up for hearing in the Vacation Court, situated at Moore Road, Calabar.

The plaintiffs are accusing the speaker and principal officers of deliberately sharing allowances accruing to PDP members.

Spokesman for the plaintiffs and member representing Calabar municipality in the House, Efa Esua, in an interview, said the defendants have filed their defense accordingly.

“They have filed their defense and preliminary objection to the suit and served us a day to hearing, but we are entitled to some days to file our response and so the matter was adjourned to September 14, 2021 for arguments on the motion on preliminary objection.

“We did not take the state government to court as insinuated. We took our colleagues, 18 of them who defected to the APC, to court. Our colleagues, led by the speaker, have constituted a law to themselves.

“When our money comes from the state government, after taking their own, they would sit down and share our own allowances among themselves. That is overhead and local government allowances.

“They have done that for the past three to four months purporting to obey instruction from the higher authority. This is what they have done to seven of us who refused to defect with them to APC.

“We are praying the court to cause them to give our monies, that is, what is due us, to us. The clerk of the assembly is trying to deny it, saying that there is no such thing and that allowances are used in running the affairs of the assembly. But we have documents to show how they shared our money,” he submitted

Federal Executive Council Approves National Policy On 5G Deployment In Nigeria

The Federal Executive Council has approved the National Policy on Fifth Generation (5G) Networks for Nigeria’s Digital Economy. The 5G Policy was approved at the Council meeting today, Wednesday, 8th September 2021, following the presentation by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami). The implementation of the National Policy is with immediate effect.

The National Policy has been developed over a period of 2 years, due to the need for extensive stakeholder engagement and the need to ensure adequate public awareness and sensitization. The stakeholder engagement was thorough and multi-sectoral in nature. It also took into account the report of the 3-month 5G trials that commenced on the 25th of November 2019. The report critically reviewed and studied the health and security implications of deploying 5G in Nigeria.

Leading international organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an organ of the United Nations, have confirmed that the deployment of 5G networks leave no adverse health effect and are safe.
5G networks offer significant advantages over the current technologies. Some of its advantages include much lower latency, higher bandwidth, greater device density, longer battery life for nodes and greater network flexibility. Several countries have already commenced the deployment of 5G and are enjoying its benefits. These countries include the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Korea, South Africa and Lesotho, to mention but a few.

The National Frequency Management Council (NFMC), chaired by Minister Pantami, will soon release spectrum to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) that meet all the required conditions.

The NCC, as the regulator of the telecommunications sector, will continue engaging stakeholders with a view to developing the regulatory instruments required for the successful deployment of the technology in Nigeria.

Paternity Fraud: Police Invite Uzoamaka Ohiri, Ex-wife Of Comedian Nedu, For Questioning

Nedu & ex-wife, Uzoamaka

The Lagos State Police command has invited Uzoamaka Ohiri, the former wife of comedian, Chinedu Ani, a.k.a Nedu, The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent learnt that policemen attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, visited her home in the Ajah area of Lagos State on Tuesday evening, but she was not at home.

They subsequently told the security guard to inform her to report at the SCID on Thursday.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Uzoamaka’s cousin, who identified himself only as Peter, said, “Policemen attached to Panti came to the house on Tuesday evening, but she was not around.

“They asked the security guard to sign a document and then they asked her to come to their station.”

A member of her legal team from Wingman Legal Chambers also informed The PUNCH that the comedian’s ex-wife had been invited.

“It is true. She was asked to report at the SCID tomorrow morning,” he said.

Attempts to speak with Uzoamaka proved abortive, as her telephone line indicated that it has been switched off.

“She may have already been arrested because I have not been able to reach her all day,” said Uzoamaka’s cousin, Peter.

The mother of three has been trending on social media for the last five days after accusing her ex-husband of domestic violence.

In his response to his ex-wife’s allegations, Nedu said he had been the victim of domestic violence, rather than Uzoamaka.

Our correspondent could not ascertain the reason for the Police invitation as of Press time, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, could not be reached on the telephone on Wednesday.

Coup: Guinean President Arrested As Army Dissolve Constitution

A screengrab taken from footage sent to AFP by a military source on September 5, 2021 shows the President of Guinea Conakry Alpha Conde after he was captured by army putschists during a coup d'etat in Conakry on September 5, 2021. Photo: AFP

Army putschists in Guinea said on Sunday they had arrested the president and staged a coup, in the latest political upheaval to roil the impoverished west African country, as the government insisted it had repelled the attack.

“We have decided, after having taken the president, to dissolve the constitution,” said a uniformed officer flanked by soldiers toting assault rifles in a video sent to AFP.

The officer also said that Guinea’s land and air borders have been shut and the government dissolved.

But the situation remained unclear as Conde’s government released a rival statement saying that an attack on the presidential palace by special forces had been “repulsed”.

Another video sent to AFP by the putschists showed a rumpled-looking President Alpha Conde sitting on a sofa, surrounded by troops. He refused to answer a question from one soldier about whether he was being mistreated.

Guinea — one of the world’s poorest countries despite boasting significant mineral resources — has long been beset by political instability.

Earlier on Sunday, residents of the capital Conakry’s Kaloum district, the government quarter, reported hearing heavy gunfire.

Speaking on condition of anonymity for their safety, they reported seeing a number of soldiers on the streets who called on residents to return to their homes and stay there.

A Western diplomat in Conakry, who also declined to be named, said the unrest started after the dismissal of a senior commander in the special forces — provoking some of its highly trained members to rebel and occupy the presidential palace.

AFP was unable to independently confirm this account.

Later on Sunday, the head of Guinea’s military special forces Lieutenant-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya appeared on public television, draped in the national flag, and cited government “mismanagement” as a reason behind his actions.

The apparent coup comes amid a long period of political tension in Guinea, first spurred by Conde’s highly contested bid for a third presidential term last year.

The day before the presidential election last year, the military blocked access to Kaloum after an alleged military rebellion east of the capital.

Conde, 83, also survived an assassination attempt in 2011.

— Violent elections —
The most recent presidential poll in the nation of some 13 million people, in October 2020, was violently disputed and also marred by accusations of electoral fraud.

Conde won a controversial third term in that poll, but only after pushing through a new constitution in March 2020 that allowed him to sidestep the country’s two-term limit.

Dozens of people were killed during demonstrations against a third term for the president, often in clashes with security forces. Hundreds were also arrested.

Conde was then proclaimed president on November 7 last year — despite his main challenger Cellou Dalein Diallo as well as other opposition figures calling the election a sham.

After the poll, the government launched a crackdown and arrested several prominent opposition members for their alleged role in abetting electoral violence in the country.

A former opposition leader himself who was at one point imprisoned and sentenced to death, Conde became Guinea’s first democratically-elected leader in 2010 and won re-election in 2015.

Hopes of a new political dawn in the former French colony have withered, however, and he has been accused of drifting into authoritarianism.

Nigerian music icon 2Face Idibia's wife, Annie has called him out over his relationship with one of his baby mamas, Pero Adeniyi.

The movie star took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, September 2, 2021, where she called him out over their relationship.

"I am a patient woman. I am not a fool innocent. Your family never loved me from the beggining. No matter how hard I tried. I was never worthy to them," she wrote.

"I have made so many sacrifices for you and all your children. God knows I have I tried. Your baby mamas constantly use your children as an excuse for all sort of rubbish."

I try to stay gracious. You are not the first man on the planet to have kids by different women. You can do better. Everything I do is to show the good human that you are."

"But today, this move done by you, Efe, Frankie and your family is unacceptable."

She went on to call him out for sleeping at the house of one of his baby mamas, Pero for days, during his trip to the United States of America.

"What kind of man takes his kids to Disney and spend nights in the same apartment with his kids and their mother? How many times have you gone to see your kids with Pero? and she stay with you and the kids under the same roof?"

Pero is 2Face's first baby mama who gave birth to three kids for the music star.

She has been at loggerheads with Annie for years now

Their rift can be traced back to 2015 and 2016 when they both called each other out on social media.

Their frosty relationship took a front burner when photos of 2Face Idibia reportedly kissing Pero at the singer's nightclub back in 2015 broke the Internet.

Hope For HIV Vaccine Dims As Trial Fails In Africa

Hope of an effective Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) vaccine may have been dashed, as researchers announced Tuesday that an advanced trial in Africa had been stopped after data showed that the shots offered only limited protection against the disease.

The therapy, by Johnson & Johnson, is one in a long line found to offer little defence against the virus. A particular candidate vaccine even increased the risk of infection.

Another trial was halted last year in South Africa after a different experimental vaccine failed to offer sufficient protection. Some 1.5 million people were infected with HIV worldwide in 2020, and 38 million are living with the ailment.

Scientists were dismayed by the most recent failure.

The principal investigator and chair of the South African Medical Research Council, Dr. Glenda Gray, said: “I should be used to it by now, but you've never used to it – you still put your heart and soul into it.”

She has been working to develop a treatment for more than 15 years

Entirely, new approaches might be needed. This month, Moderna announced that it would test a vaccine based on the mRNA platform to devise the company’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Named Imbokodo, the trial tested an experimental vaccine on 2,600 most predisposed HIV young women in five sub-Saharan African nations, as the gender accounted for almost two-thirds of new infections in the region last year.

Johnson & Johnson, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United States National Institutes of Health-funded the exercise.

The vaccine relied on an adenovirus called Ad26, modified to carry fragments of four HIV subtypes into the body in the hope of provoking an immune response that could guard against infection.

Participants in the Imbokodo trial, which began in 2017, were given two initial shots and two boosters in a period of one year. Researchers tracked the number of new infections in the placebo and vaccine groups from the seventh month (a month after the third vaccination) through the 24th month.

Over two years, 63 of 1,109 partakers, who received the placebo, were infected with HIV, compared with 51 of 1,079 participants that received the vaccine – giving the therapy an efficacy rate of 25 per cent.

Earlier studies, including one carried out in Thailand, had indicated that the kind of antibodies the vaccine provoked might be sufficient to offer good protection from the sickness for an initial period of time.

But a parallel trial that uses a different iteration of this vaccine will continue, Johnson & Johnson said. It is being tested on men, who have sex with men and transgender people, in eight countries, including Poland, Brazil, and the United States.

The study, labelled Mosaico, is testing the vaccine against different subtypes of HIV in different populations and could produce different efficacy results.

Ronaldo Breaks All-Time International Scoring Record

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 110th international goal to overtake Iran’s Ali Daei as the men’s all-time international goal scorer.

The newly minted Manchester United man’s record mark arrived in the 89th minute of Portugal’s World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland. Goncalo Guedes swung in a cross from the right wing, with Ronaldo rising to meet the service and head home the record-breaking equaliser.

He added his 111th international goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time, leading his side to a 2-1 comeback win.

Ronaldo equalised Daei’s mark of 109 earlier this year at Euro 2020 with a two-goal performance in group-stage action against France. Both those goals in the 2-2 draw in Budapest came from the penalty spot.

The all-time international scoring record is held by Canada’s Christine Sinclair who has 186 goals.

Ronaldo also made Euro history when he scored twice in Portugal’s opening group-stage game against Hungary to become the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 11 goals.

He became the first man to appear at five Euros, second overall only to Italy’s Carolina Morace who has appeared at six tournaments.

Ronaldo is the only man to score in five Euros, extending his own record.

Ronaldo’s record puts him eighth on the all-time scorers list behind Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Birgit Prinz, Carli Lloyd, Julie Fleeting and Sinclair.

The 36-year-old made his international debut in 2003 and his tally of 180 caps brings him level with Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos as the European man with the most appearances for his national side.

Ronaldo has two major honours with Portugal, having led his country to success at Euro 2016 and the inaugural UEFA Nations League three years later.
