A Sad Story Of How A Man Was Buried On His Wedding Day In Cross River

Tears flowed uncontrollably on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State during the burial rites of a young man, identified as Thomas Obi aka Majar who died in a motor accident.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that Mr. Obi died at the spot in a fatal accident which took place in Nko, Yakurr LGA of Cross River State while travelling to Calabar to make proper arrangement for his marriage which was scheduled for December 30th and 31st, 2021.

The late groom-to-be was however buried on the 30th of December, a day he was suppose to say 'I do' to his lover.

Narrating the incident in a post on Facebook, a cousin to the deceased, George Odok, wrote:

"Tears  upon tears as my cousin brother is buried on his supposed wedding day

"Oh, dead, why the sudden surface, why did you come now to claim away the life of my dear first cousin brother, Mr Thomas Obi, a.k.a Majar?

"Your marriage was fixed for Dec. 30th and 31st in Boki, but sadly, it turned out to be your day of eternal rest.

"My dear late cousin brother, you travelled to Calabar to make proper arrangement for the marriage and to pick some valuables needed for the wedding, only for you to be struck by an accident in Nko community in Yakurr LGA, and you were the only passenger that died at the spot on December 13.

"Can we question God for this painful demise? Oh, no, we cant question God, because he gives and takes according to his divine time-table.

"What about your spouse, who was to wear her wedding gown today to be officially handed over to you in marriage? Oh no, this is a sad one! What about your children, what about your immediate family, extended family, friends and associate? This is one death too painful to behold.

"People have travelled from far and near to attend your wedding, to celebrate with you, to say congratulations on your happy holy matrimony, to watch you kiss your wife, but sadly, with tears in our eyes, we are rather seeing your lifeless corpse.

"Words have failed me, oh dear Majar, I wish we could bring you back to life by neutralising your demise!

"May you rest with the Lord!". The post read

"Why My Husband Jumped Into Lagos Lagoon" - Wife Of Man Who Committed Suicide

Ms Sofiat Amusa, wife of the 25-year-old man who committed suicide by jumping into a lagoon in the Epe area of Lagos, said her husband acted strangely before his death.

“Depression and frustration of not being attended to by his parents contributed to my husband’s death,” she said.

The Nation reports the deceased body was found on Thursday.

The deceased had a 11-month-old daughter before his demise.

A viral video showed Olalekan sitting on the handrail of the Lagos bridge before jumping into the lagoon.

A voice in the 30-second video is heard asking Olalekan what was wrong with him, but he did not respond.

It was learnt Olalekan was a holder of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) certificate from the Department of Quantity Surveying at the Lagos State Polytechnic, and a worker at Alaro City, a mega estate along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Many social media users wondered why the person filming did not make an attempt to rescue him.

The deceased’s 21-year-old wife, in an interview, attributed her husband’s death to frustration and depression.

She said: “Abdulrahman Odunare Olamilekan was my husband. Suddenly we heard about the incident and how it occurred.

“We lived together before his demise but he has been acting strangely for some days before his death.

“I complained about his strange behaviour to his parents but they ignored it until he died.

“Lack of parental care, depression and frustration of not being attended to by his parents contributed to my husband’s death.

“He was a drug addict, he does not take Colorado but he took Arizona. But before the incident occurred, he didn’t do drugs.

“We were shocked when we heard the news, but before it happened, he has been saying it for about three days before the incident occurred and he has been saying some depressing words.

“If he was monitored closely, it would have not led to death.

“My husband’s dead body was found two days after he plunged into lagoon and he has since been buried at the lagoon side.

“There is no one standing by me now except my own family.

“No one from my deceased husband family has contacted me, and I’ve no friends who can support.

“I’ll appreciate the support of Nigerians.

“Before his demise, he pleaded that I should take care of his child.”

She appealed to Nigerians to support her with food and cash to take care of their daughter.

Family Confirms Death Of Lagos Diploma Holder Who Jumped Into Lagoon

The family of a National Diploma certificate holder, Lekan Odunare, has confirmed his death after he jumped into a lagoon in an attempt to commit suicide.

Our correspondent gathered that the body of the victim, who jumped into the lagoon in the Epe area of Lagos State on Tuesday morning, was found on Thursday.

A grieving family member of the victim who craved anonymity confirmed the development on Thursday.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS had earlier reported that Odunare was captured in a video circulating on social media sitting on the rails of a bridge before plunging into the waters.

Before he dived in, a man filming the scene was heard querying his intention.

Odunare, who looked forlorn, did not answer any of the questions before jumping into the lagoon.

Many social media users, however, wondered why the man behind the camera made no effort to save him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he had yet to get an update on the matter.

An official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said the agency did not receive any report of the incident.

Also, the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, told our correspondent that the agency had no information on the matter.

Mother and child were rescued by a human rights group, HURIDE, after they were alerted by a good Samaritan, Mr Nwakpu Cosmas Aluma.

"Met this baby delivered along the road by a mentally not stable woman, late evening today. Had the cord clamped and baby separated from the mother successfully with the help of people around. And it's a baby girl," Cosmas wrote.

"I quickly chatted Mr. Sampson Oko Nweke who responded immediately. Promised to come around for rescue. Thanks to people who gathered, donated and helped save the mother and the baby's life. Both of them are in good condition.

"Before the filing of this report, the mother and the baby has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation and care. Thanks to Mr. Sampson and his team for the Swift response given. I will visit the hospital tomorrow to know how they are fairing. Glory be to God!What good he cannot do does not exist. I am Cosmas."

"It was on Friday night(10th December. 2021) that HURIDE got a call from a good Samaritan, (Nwakpu Cosmas Aluma) reporting a case of a female neonate delivered around Mile 4 hospital Axis by a mentally challenged mother who has no clear identity. Wife Beat Husband To A Pulp In Benue, Husband Says He May Not Survive Wife's Constant Beating

A former lawmaker who represented the Jechira Federal Constituency in Benue State between 2003 and 2007 has beaten her husband to a pulp, leaving the man in deep cuts and severe agony.

Hon. Sharon Aondona Daboh, on Wednesday evening descended on her husband in the most vicious manner, but it is not clear what triggered the latest showdown, except that the incident came a few days after the husband, Mr David Fiase Aondona, made a public post on Facebook alleging threat to his life, and asking the public to hold his wife responsible should anything happen to him.

In the post, Mr Fiase had accused his wife of trying to kill him via “domestic violence.”

The short post read “I can’t sleep. I am scared. I feel threatened by Hon. Sharon Aondona Daboh. If anything happens to me, she should be held responsible. David Fiase.”

But in a swift reaction, Mr Fiase has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and pleaded that the IG help prevent his wife from killing him, by ending the marriage as he’s not sure he’ll survive another of beating.

In the petition made by BIMA CHAMBERS, Mr. Fiase requested the dissolution of the marriage saying the “woman would habitually threaten to kill him by any slightest misunderstanding we had as a couple.”

The petition dated December 7, 2021 said the couple got married in 2017 but started having issues a year after which led him to flee from his matrimonial home for fear of being killed by his estranged wife.

Fiase further told the IGP that “sometime in February, 2019, he caused a notice of petition for the decree of dissolution of the marriage between him and his wife to be filed at the FCT High Court, but the case died following the death of the learned Judge whose court the suit was assigned.

He said he had been thro hell, and could die having received the worst beatings at the hands of his wife.

Regrettably, “while efforts were being made to serve his wife the court summons, Mr Fiase said he was kidnapped somewhere in Garki, FCT-Abuja, on the 24th July, 2019, by unknown persons, who stabbed him brutally in his face and neck, before toamssing him out of a moving vehicle, and left to die by the roadside.

However, he said survived the gory attack and thereafter made a formal complaint at the Garki Police Station.

Even at that, he said his wife kept assaulting and harassing and threatening to snuff the life out of him.

He said it was the basis upon which he sought an end to their union so as to restore his peace of mind and end the sufferings from the sustained psychological trauma which he said could take his life.

“We count on your good offices to invite and investigate Hon. Sharon Aondona Daboh accordingly and also cause her to undertake the safety of our client”, the petition said.

Two men Junior Ajayi and Mr Amadi, are currently at loggerheads over who is the biological father of a baby boy born by a 21-year-old lady identified as Blessing.

An apprentice, Junior in a chat with ITV Benin City said he accepted the pregnancy when it was two months old and even met with Blessing’s father to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

He said Blessing’s aunt who she was residing with when she got pregnant, asked her to terminate the pregnancy since he, Ajayi, wasn’t financially stable, or leave her house. Ajayi said he immediate took Blessing in and nurtured her until she delivered a boy.

He said he nursed mother and child for four months before she then informed him that Amadi was the father of the child. He said Amadi came to forcefully take the mother and child for him. He said he noticed that anytime Amadi called Blessing, she was always hiding to receive his calls. Ajayi said Blessing also informed him that Amadi has his own house. Precious Chikwendu: I Never Had Sex With Femi Fani-Kayode For 6 Years Because He Could Not Perform

The Customary Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Tuesday adjourned till Wednesday to hear an application by a former beauty queen Precious Chikwendu seeking access to the four children she bore for a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Chikwendu filed the application through her counsel, Mr Abiodun Olusanya, informing the court that she had information that one of the kids – who were all said to be in Fani-Kayode’s custody – was injured in the head.

Olusanya told the court that the ex-minister had been served via substituted means, as ordered by the court.

In the suit marked FCT/CCK8/01/043/2021, Chikwendu told the court that Fani-Kayode never consummated his six-year relationship with her.

Chikwendu said she was forced to remain celibate during the cohabitation and alleged that the four children she birthed in her affair with Fani-Kayode were conceived via artificial insemination.

She prayed the court to declare that she was never married to Fani-Kayode because, contrary to his claims, he neither paid her bride price nor performed customary or statutory marriage rites with her.

She averred that in the course of their cohabitation, she found out that despite Fani-Kayode’s denial, his marriage to his third wife, Regina, subsisted.

She accused him of assaulting her several times, ordering his bodyguards to strip, lock her up in her room.

Chikwendu (the petitioner) made the averrments in her November 29, 2021 “Application for issuance of civil summons/plaint” against Fani-Kayode (the respondent) in suit FCT/CCK8/01/043/2021 filed by her counsel Mr Abiodun E. Olusanya.

She is seeking the following reliefs:

“An order declaring that there was no customary marriage between the Petitioner and the respondent (despite their six-year cohabitation) under the Nanka, Orumba North, Anambra State of Igbo native law and customs.

“Alternatively, assuming by the evidence during trial the court finds that there was a customary marriage between parties:

“An order dissolving the customary marriage between the petitioner and the respondent forthwith.

“An order granting the Petitioner access to and custody of the four children of the cohabitation between parties especially during their academic calendar

“An order ordering the respondent to be continuously responsible for the academic, medical, clothing and welfare of the four children of the cohabitation.

“An order ordering the respondent to release and return the Petitioner’s property.”

The property includes the petitioner’s certificates and documents, trophies from the United Nations pageantry, Red Range Rover car, registered under her foundation name and the foundation’s certificates and the petitioner’s picture.

Others are the petitioner’s mother’s burial videos and souvenirs, mother’s certificates and documents, the petitioner’s clothes and personal belongings including gadgets, sewing machines left at the children’s play area and Petitioner’s fridge and kitchen gadgets for her food company, Mommy Pee Food.

Chikwendu said her relationship with Fani-Kayode, her former “estranged cohabiter,” was full of “woes, lies, deceits, quarrels, assaults, battery and domestic violence, lack of trust and absence of love, public disgrace and shame, and absence of sex due to the inability to sexually perform and intolerable behaviour of the respondent.”

She contended that there was never a marriage between the parties on the ground, among others, that the respondent “has continuously behaved in such a way that the Petitioner cannot reasonably be expected to continue to live with the respondent any further or formally enter into any form of traditional marriage whit him.”

She added: “From the inception of the cohabitation, the Respondent has been a violent person who attacks the Petitioner and her family members at will without provocation.”

She averred that in 2016 when EFCC raided Fani-Kayode’s house, she found his marriage certificate with his third wife, Regina, following she confronted him with it and requested to see the subsequent divorce certificate, following which he allegedly confessed that he had yet to do so.

Chinwendu added: “At every attempt, the petitioner made to have sexual intercourse with the respondent, there was never erection of the respondent’s penis/manhood and penetration was frustrating.

“During such periods of frustration and sexual desire, the petitioner would be left with the choice of merely rubbing herself on the respondent, to have the slightest bit of relief.

“The petitioner then insisted parties should seek medical help for the respondent, and on visiting the family doctor, the respondent claimed he was diagnosed of having a cyst on his penis/manhood, which is not allowing the respondent to have erection and or perform sexually,

“The respondent was supposedly placed on cyprotab and the doctor suggested that the respondent should go and decide when he wishes to remove/untangle the cyst.

“Few days after the visit to the doctor, the respondent informed the petitioner that he had discussed with Regina and she had prayed over it, that the respondent should not do the operation, else he would die.

“The respondent never took the cyprotab medication, but any time the petitioner tried to engage the respondent in sexual activities, the respondent would claim his penis/manhood was paining him and then drink the medication.

“The petitioner bought intimacy gadgets for the respondent, but the respondent refused to use it and warned the petitioner never to suggest it again.”

Chikwendu averred further that since August 2020 that she walked out of the cohabitation with the Respondent, she had been continuously denied access to her children and her children have been continuously deprived parental motherly care and protection.”

She claimed that Fani-Kayode was in the habit of not paying his domestic staff/workers/nannies, “which leaves the workers angry and they could unleash and or transfer their anger on the children, they may kill any of the children any day, if the children are left with the respondent.

“Most of the domestic staff/workers/nannies that are not paid their wages, usually resign and run away without informing anyone and considering the security situation, the workers could kidnap any of the children.

“Currently the respondent is in court with some of the former domestic staff/workers for noa payment of salaries and abuse.”

Fani-Kayode is yet to file a response to the application.

But in another suit, Fani-Kayode asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the N800 million suit that was instituted against him by Chikwendu.

In a counter-affidavit he filed through his team of lawyers, he told the court that his ex-wife deprived his children of breast milk on the account of the need to preserve her shape.

He also said it was “coupled with a contrived medical condition which she claimed would not permit her to breastfeed them”.

In a 23-paragraph affidavit he personally deposed to in opposition to the suit, Fani-Kayode, said it was not true that the applicant (Ms Chikwendu) was violently separated from the four children they had together.

He told the court that rather, “she elected to leave her matrimonial home and consciously abandon the children, in order to optimise without restraints, her extra-marital and inordinate sexual escapades.

“As a fact, it is not surprising that Ms. Precious Chikwendu is capable of such reckless abandonment, because: whilst she was with me in the house afore-described, she employed 12 in-house nannies to cater for the children, excluding supervisors and nurses who equally attend to them.”

“The applicant did not at any time extend maternal care to the children, for the reason that she had a medical condition which deprived her of any filial bond with them; she deprived the children of the natural sucks or breast milk, also on account of the need to preserve her body shape, coupled with a contrived medical condition which she claimed would not permit her to breastfeed them,” the statement read in part.

SS3 Student Who Beat His Teacher To Death In Delta Declared Wanted By Police

The deceased

By Dele Ogunyemi

Delta State Police Command has declared wanted one Michael Ogbeife, an SS3 student of Erhimu Secondary School, Abraka in the State, for beating a teacher of the school, Joseph Ossai, to death.

Michael is said to be on the run after perpetrating the illicit act on Thursday.

It was  gathered that Michael had on that fateful day engaged the teacher in a scuffle that resulted in the teacher giving up the ghost during the fight.

The deceased teacher, who was said to be in charge of Agricultural Science and Biology in the school until his demise, had reportedly flogged Michael’s younger sister, Promise Ogbeife who was involved in a dispute with her classmate.

It was gathered that Michael got infuriated by the teacher’s decision to flog his sister and the enraged SS3 student resorted to a fight with the teacher.

Sources said that Michael angrily left the school’s premises after his sister was flogged, and later returned back, heading straight to the staff room for a showdown with the teacher.

Some of our sources alleged that Michael had initially rushed home to get a charm before engaging the teacher in the fight.

It was gathered that the teacher collapsed after some punches from the student which left the teacher with a bleeding nose just as blood was also gushing out from his mouth.

Consequently, the teacher was rushed to a private hospital in the community, from where he was referred to the government hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Reacting to the gory incident, the proprietor of the school, Mr Erhimu, told journalists that he was awaiting full details of the matter, as he was not around when the incident happened.

The visibly worried proprietor has however directed that the school be shut till Monday noting that he had been to the police station over the matter.

Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, told newsmen that the suspect is on the run.

“The suspect is nowhere to be found for now, but his sister is in protective custody”, the PPRO said just as he insisted that efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.

Sad! 24-year Old Prospective Corps Member Dies In Crash On Way To NYSC Camp

By Armstrong Bakam

A fatal crash has claimed the life of a 24-year old prospective corps member, Matu Esky, who was on his way to Katsina State, for the three weeks mandatory orientation exercise.

Our correspondent gathered that the crash occurred on Friday afternoon in Jigawa State on his way to the orientation camp. One other passenger also died in the incident.

The deceased, who hailed from Ungwan Maryam in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi state, was the firstborn of four children.

He was a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, where he studied Architecture, both at the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels.

Esky, popularly called “Phil Chase”, was an upcoming artist in Bauchi State and was said to be passionate about music.

A cousin to the deceased, Nuhu Arewa, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday night.

He said, “Yes, the incident is true, he was my cousin. He was a very talented and promising young man.

“He was posted to Maiduguri, Borno state for his one-year national youth service but their orientation camp is to hold in Katsina state. So, he was on his way to the camp that Friday when the unfortunate incident happened.

“He boarded a vehicle to Kano State, where he was to board another vehicle that would take him to Katsina. Unfortunately, he did not even reach Kano because the crash occurred in Jigawa State and he died.”

Arewa, who described the incident as very sad and painful, said he saw the deceased last that same day when he was about to leave Bauchi for the orientation camp.

“I saw him last that same Friday shortly before he left town for Katsina. He was in a car which was going to his house to pick his things and go on his journey. He saw me and waved me; that was the last time I saw him, only for us to hear of this sad and pathetic news that he died in a fatal crash in Jigawa.

“Humanly speaking, I feel very sad but since God is the giver of life and he takes it anytime being who he is, I am okay with that. I take it as the doing of the Lord because that is how he provws who he is,” he stated.
