Family Cries Out As Corpse Goes Missing In Mortuary

A family in Ebonyi State is in confusion after the disappearance of the corpse of their 80-year-old matriarch, Madam Grace Okoro, from a mortuary in Owutu Edda community, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state.

The brother of the deceased, Pastor Fred Okoro, said he got the shock of his life when family members went to collect the remains of their sister on the burial day, only to discover that a different corpse was kept in the morgue for them.

Madam Grace died on July 2, 2021, and her remains were deposited same day in the mortuary, said to be on the premises of the General Hospital, Owutu Edda.

With the burial date fixed for December 28, 2021, sympathisers and relations gathered under various canopies at the deceased’s compound, singing and chanting, only for news to filter in that the corpse was missing from the mortuary.

Fred said the family sensed something was amiss a month after the deposit was made, as several efforts by members to see the condition of the corpse were frustrated by the morticians, who claimed that the morgue was being fumigated.

He said it dawned on them when the family members went to the mortuary to get the corpse for lying-in-state and burial only for a strange corpse to be presented to them.

The cleric said, “The corpse presented to us was not ours because my sister is tall, about six feet tall, and we discovered that the person was short. Not only that, my sister had plaited hair at the time of death, but that one had low-cut hair.

“I suspected foul play when those alleged to have mistaken my sister’s corpse for theirs refuted the allegation. It was discovered that those people deposited their relative in May, whereas my sister was deposited on July 2nd.”

A daughter of the deceased, Welsie Okoro, a naval rating, described the development as incredible, adding that when they dragged the morticians to the Owutu Police Station, they claimed that they mistakenly handed the corpse to another family for burial.

“The mortuary attendant, Mr Felix, said one of his colleagues said he knew the person he gave my mother’s corpse to,” she added.

The manager of the mortuary, Mr Vincent Ude, said he was doing everything possible to recover the body.

He said, “Investigations are still on; I am sure we are going to recover the corpse.”

It was gathered that mourners who had gathered for the burial went home disappointed, abandoning all that was prepared for the event.

"How We Murdered RCCG Pastor Who Gave Us Shelter" In Lagos - Upcoming Musicians Confesses

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two fleeing suspects, Farouk Mohammed and Jamiu Kasali, who murdered Pastor Babatunde Dada of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG on 6th Avenue, Festac Town.

The suspects, who claimed to be upcoming musicians, stabbed the 46-year-old pastor to death on December 2, 2021, and fled with his bag containing some money.

It was gathered that the suspects had approached the unsuspecting pastor on the pretext of being strangers in Lagos who had no place to stay.

The deceased lodged them in a room in the church which also served as his residence only to be attacked at about 12 noon the next day and abandoned in the pool of his blood to die.

It was further gathered that the suspects attended church service the Sunday before the incident, and also came out during an altar call to 'surrender their lives to Jesus'

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that Mohammed was tracked to Ilorin, Kwara State, while his partner in crime, Kasali, was apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos.

In an interview published by Vanguard, Kasali, said, “On the day we struck, the Pastor came to Church in morning, gave us money for food and left. Later, he came in with a bag containing money,"

"Few hours before then, Farouk got a telephone call from his mother, urging him to come home quickly that she was sick. We were contemplating on how he would get money to take his mother to the hospital when the Pastor walked in with the bag containing money.

"We followed him upstairs, hit him with a plank, before stabbing him with a broken bottle in the neck. He fell down. We grabbed the bag and left the house.

On his part, Mohammed, 15, said he lied to his parents that he was coming to Lagos for a show, being an incoming Musician.

"I lied to my mother that I would get at least, N200,000 from the show. We are upcoming musicians. We have been in the industry for three years. When things were not going on as planned, we decided to do something else , in order to invest in our music industry. My stage name is Zealight while Kasali’s J Fresh," he said.

"Our mission in Lagos was to look for where to perform. But that plan changed immediately we saw Pastor with the bag containing money." he added.

Meanwhile, Odumosu said the exhibits used to commit the act have been recovered, adding that the suspects would be charged to court.

I Never Asked Anyone To Vote For Buhari - Rev. Fr. Mbaka, Says There Are Plots To Asassinate Him

Catholic priest, and spiritual director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka has denied asking anyone to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general elections.

He claimed that he only declared a revelation he received, about Buhari becoming President in 2015.

Mbaka who said this in his 2022 new year message also raised an alarm of a plot to kill him after a row with the Catholic Diocese of Enugu in May last year.

This came after the Catholic Priest who was known as an ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, asked the President to resign or be impeached for “bad governance”.

In response, the Presidency alleged that Mbaka was angry because his request for government contracts was rebuffed.

Giving his new year message, Mbaka recounted how he was asked to shut down his Adoration ministry in Enugu for one-month and embark on a retreat by Catholic Bishop of the Enugu Diocese, Callistus Onaga who cautioned him against meddling in politics.

Addressing his followers on New Year Day, Mbaka said;

You know they gave me order (at the time) not to come here (Adoration Ground) again till 30 days. Somebody that was summoned to a meeting,” he said.

“It was the meeting I went for, but I didn’t know it was a panel. It was in that panel that they gave me an order not to conduct adoration again until 30 days and that I won’t enter my house until 30 days.

“I was asked to just move somewhere else other than Adoration ground or my house."

He claimed that he obeyed the Bishop’s order, but that the Holy Spirit ministered to him that he should not park “anywhere”.

Mbaka added;

“I didn’t know I was being tracked that night. Before the next day you people started searching for me.

“Their plan was to capture me that night and drag me to Cubana (Hotel) and take me to Mobil where prostitutes stay and then take me around (there) and then, show video of me in the place (Brothel) so that people would ask what Mbaka was searching for in brothel.

“Then, they will again, drag me to Igboeze, another spot for Prostitutes. That’s where they planned to naked themselves, not me. So, then people would begin to ask what I am doing naked in prostitutes’ spot. Then, they will take me to Abuja and the story will be much, they will kill themselves, not me.”

Speaking further, Mbaka said he has reviewed his initial apology to the church leadership and realised it was people who treated him badly that ought to apologise to him.

The Catholic Priest warned people fighting his ministry to steer clear of it.

Mbaka who also maintained that he has never spoken ill of the Bishop in the Adoration ground, stated that he takes him as a father and should also be taken as a son.

Speaking on Buhari's presidency, Mbaka said;

“When I was saying that Buhari would be President, there was nobody I told to vote Buhari.

“People were quoting me out of context. I said it was revealed to me that Buhari would be President (in 2015), does that mean I said you should vote him? It is vision, but I said if he begins to mess up, that I will attack him. It is in the tape. And he messed up and I started attacking him."
