Member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani federal constituency in the house of representatives, Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba has applauded President Bola Tinubu for acting promptly to address the disagreement occasioned by the nomination of a member of the People's Democratic Party to represent Cross River State in the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. The presidency had, in a press statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngeleri announced Asu Okang, a prominent member of the opposition PDP as Cross River representative in the NDDC board. The announcement was followed by series of protests by youths in the state, calling on the president to immediately reverse the appointment. While addressing the youths, governor Bassey Otu had called on the youths to remain calm, promising that the president will correct the wrong. In a statement personally signed by Hon. Akiba, he described President Tinubu as "a listening leader who has once again demonstrated that he was ready to always carry all Nigerians along at all times" The lawmaker also salutes the leadership qualities of the state governor who was able to rise to the occasion of ensuring that the demands of the people was met. According to him, "It is heart - warming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has graciously approved the immediate replacement of the Representative - nominee of Cross River State to the board. "This singular act of listening and swiftly responding to the yearnings and aspirations of the citizens, by Mr. President, is commendable, lending credence to the inclusion of the citizens in decision making process. "While congratulating the representative - nominee of Cross River State, Hon. Orok Otu Duke, l convey my profound commendation to Mr. President and Governor Bassey Otu for taking the passionate plea of the people into consideration and ensuring that the people's representative is appointed to the NDDC Board. This is a testament that the current administration truly represents the voice and choice of the people. "I also commend the people of the state for rising to the occasion and speaking up against what they do not like, which is in tandem with our leadership mantra that the citizens should always speak out on matters that affect them, especially, issues of governance and policy" Recall that the President had announced Hon. Orok Duke as representative of the state in the NDDC board to replace Asu Okang who was earlier announced.
