Reports reaching GRASSROOT REPORTERS says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ogoja has been vandalized by thugs on Saturday night.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that some persons were injured by the thugs who allegedly became furious after the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ogoja State Constituency, Rita Ayim was declared the winner of the election conducted on Saturday.

Our correspondent gathered that soldiers and other security operatives have been mobilized to the area.

In Bakassi Local Government Area, a female INEC adhoc staff identified as Glory Effiom Essien has been shot dead by unknown gunmen.

Report says she was shot by suspected militants operating on a speed boat heading to Ikang, the headquarters of the council.

Reacting to the incident, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River, Prof. Gabriel Yomere, said the victim is responding to treatment at UCTH, Calabar.
