The governorship ambition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Cross River State, Senator Sandy Onor suffered a major setback on Wednesday as his kinsmen, Ejagham nation, under the aegis of Ejagham Federation endorsed the governoship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Prince Bassey Otu, GRASSROOT REPORTERS reports.
Senator Otu’s endorsement has further sustained the long-standing relationship and peaceful coexistence amongst the existing tribes in Cross River State.
Some political actors in the state have been criticized for playing tribal politics as the 2023 governorship election draws nearer.
Chairman of the Cluster, Senator Ndoma Egba stressed the need to maintain justice, fairness and equitable rotation of power across the three Senatorial district.
Senator Egba reiterated the fact that no single tribe amongst the numerous tribes in Cross River State has the monopoly of capacity to decide where power goes to without a proper alliance and romance with other tribes hence the need to bury the tribal politics and maintain the love and togetherness the state have enjoyed over the years.
He further stressed that tribal politics will rather take the state backwards and should be nipped in the bud immediately.
Reading the communique, the immediate past Acting Chairman of APC, Ntufam Hilliard Eta said he has aligned completely without any equivocation, stressing on the essence of love and togetherness, which, according to Eta, is the leeway to development in the state.
He noted that no individual will trickishly hide under any tribal slogan or guise to win elections, adding that those firing tribal bullets with an intent to cause division, will end up firing themselves on the foot, as this has never formed part of the state politics from its creation.
He maintained that it is a mere joker and show of weakness by the opposition to win sympathy which is a complete nullity as power belongs to the people not tribe.
Renowned leaders from Ejagham extraction took turns to speak against such moves, frowning against such childish campaign strategy by the opposition party
The leaders further stressed that Prince Bassey Edet Otu is simply the best and the incoming Governor of Cross River State and expects all Ejagham sons and daughters to will their support for him without any sentiment.
