The senator representing Cross River Northern Senatorial District and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has defeated the Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win the Cross River Northern Senatorial District election held on Saturday, February 25, GRASSROOT REPORTERS reports.
Senator Jarigbe scored a total of 76,145 votes while Governor Ayade garnered 56,595 votes.
Governor Ayade lost with a difference of 19, 550.
The lawmker defeated Governor Ayade in four out of five local governments – Bekwarra, Obanliku, Yala and Ogoja.
Governor Ayade won in his local government, Obudu, with a slight margin.
A mild drama ensued at the collation centre in Ogoja as the Electoral Officer for the senatorial district said the ‘Declaration of Result’ form is missing and cannot be found.
GRASSROOT REPORTERS correspondent gathered that this led to apprehension as Senator Jarigbe and his supporters insisted on the provision of the form at the collation centre
