The PDP hopes suffered a huge setback yesterday as youths from Bakassi and Akpabuyo LGA caused the party’s governorship campaign train and his entourage out of the LGA.
Eye witness report told our reporter that the opposition party took to their heels after security men attached to Sen. Sandy Onor engaged the youths, firing live bullets at them.
This is the second time the PDP governorship campaign team is entangled in violent activity. During their campaign tour at Bekwarra LGA, security agents attached to Sandy Onor, the PDP Guber candidate was reported to have shot and kill an innocent youth, a member of the PDP who was suspected of supporting the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
On Tuesday, the PDP team led by a former governor, Donald Duke, who hails from Akpabuyo and also chairs the campaign team met heavy resistance in Akpabuyo where the youths insisted that the PDP must respect the zoning policy which has existed in the state since 1999.
Many Cross Riverians have continued to lambast the leadership of the PDP in the state for disregarding zoning policy in the state while insisting that the national leadership the party must respect zoning, describing them as hypocrites.
But like the issue of Mr. Okey Mbeh, a PDP faithful who lost his life in the process of the governorship campaign, the PDP leadership have continued to sweep the incident at Akpabuyo under the carpet, going ahead with their campaigns unperturbed.
