The management of the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State has raised the alarm over plans by cultists and kidnappers to attack the school and kidnap some lecturers resident in the school and students.
A statement by the school’s Registrar, Gabriel O. Egbe, sent to GRASSROOT REPORTERS, said the attackers plans to use the waterways to rain terror on staff and students of the school.
Mr Egbe said intelligence report at its disposal indicates that the attack is to be carried out by militants.
The statement read in parts:
“Management has just recelved classified intelligence report indicating imminent terror attack on staff and students of the University of Calabar. The security report indicates that, any moment from now, there would be heightened cult activities and kidnapping within and around the University of Calabar environment.
“The perceived kidnapping incidents are to be carried out by militants, and their targets
would be resident lecturers and sorme identified students. The attackers according to the reports, may use the waterways and adjoining creeks to launch their attacks.
“Management wishes to reiterate its earlier position on the closing of all entry and exit points into and from the University campus. The Ag. Chief Security Officer is again reminded to ensure adequate surveillance of all residential areas, especially those leading to the waterways.
“Meanwhile, staff and students are hereby assured that management will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that our internal security personnel are made to work closely with other security agencies in the task of protecting the lives of all residents and those doing legitimate business on campus.”
