The police in Cross River State, led by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sule Balarabe has rescued eight out of the nine passengers kidnapped by suspected herdsmen along Calabar – Ikom highway.
GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported that the heavily armed men opened fire on their vehicles, forcing the drivers to stop before whisking them away into the bush.
Confirming the rescue of the eight victims, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo said the attackers were armed robbers, not herdsmen.
“The abducted travelers were robbed by the locals, not herdsmen as it has been reported”.
SP Ugbo added that efforts are on to arrest the armed robbers.
