Seven health workers including two medical doctors have been kidnapped between Akamkpa and Uyanga axis of the Calabar – Ikom highway in Cross River State.
Sources told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that the abducted medical doctors are Dr Omini Joshua, a medical officer working with General Hospital, Ugep and Dr Etim Ekpo Egong popularly known as Floxy.
The incident took place yesterday, November 18, while they were returning from a workshop which held in Calabar.
GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that the kidnappers have contacted the families of the victims and are demanding a ransom of N60 million for their release.
It was that the gun-wielding men shot sporadically into the air, forcing their vehicle to stop before whisking the seven occupants of the vehicle away into the bush.
Three of the kidnapped victims who are women were later released, while four men were held by the abductors.
Amongst the four men currently held by the kidnappers are the two doctors while the other two are commutters who were traveling in same vehicle with the health workers.
Dr. Esuaiko Akaninyene Philip, The Public Relations Officer of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) confirmed the incident.
