Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have attacked passengers between Odukpani and Ugep section of the Calabar – Ikom highway in Cross River State, kidnapping nine persons.
The incident which took place on Monday, November 14, left some of the victims injured.
Narrating the incident to GRASSROOT REPORTERS, a driver of one of the passenger vehicles that was attacked said the kidnappers emerged from the bush, carrying guns and machetes.
“They came out from the bush. I was in front going to Ikom while a vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction was going to Calabar. Before we knew it, gunshots rented the air.
“They were shooting seriously. I had to use reverse. On my way coming, they shot one of my tyres.
“The other oncoming vehicle and mine had a head-on collision.
“I ran out of my car into the bush. They carried six of my passengers into the bush.” He said.
Another driver who was also attacked said the kidnappers did not ask for money from them, adding that they dragged the nine victims, including his brother into the bush.
