By Obio MondayDoctors in Cross River State under the aegis of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have declared a " total and indefinite" strike over the abduction of their colleagues, Dr Joshua Omini and Dr Etim Ekpo Egong, who were both kidnapped alongside five others between Okomita and Uyanga axis of the Ikom-Calabar Highway.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported that the they were kidnapped on their way back from a workshop in Calabar on the 18th of November, 2022.

Arising from an emergency meeting held on Sunday night, November 20, the NMA, Cross River State said it has activated its "Strike Protocol"  which provides for a window of 48hours by NMA-CRS to government to secure the unconditional release of their kidnapped member/dependant failing which they shall have no other  option than to embark on a TOTAL and INDEFINITE strike, pending their release.

It directed its members to down tools with effect from the evening of  Sunday, November 20, 2022.

The NMA called for the unconditional release of their colleagues and other victims held in captivity.

It also called on government to urgently provide Security Patrols and Check points on that axis of the road  and commence repairs of bad section of the Ikom-Calabar Highway to prevent further attacks on vehicles who reduce their speed to be able to go through the bad roads.
