Angry youths in Ndiolumbe, Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Abia State were reportedly to have yesterday set ablaze a mortuary in the area after the owner was alleged to be involved in harvesting of organs of the dead.
The morgue, Prince ‘O’ Mortuary located in Ndiolumbe community, was burnt down yesterday by the angry mob following several accusations of missing organs of the dead deposited in the mortuary.
A community leader, Prince Agbara who confirmed the incident said it was sacrilegious for anybody to harvest the body parts of the dead.
“What has happened in our community is sacrilegious. It is quite wrong for anybody to harvest body parts of the dead for whatever.
“It is always said the dead should be allowed to rest in peace and when someone goes ahead to tamper with any of the body parts of the dead, I don’t think he wants the dead person to rest in peace”
Also corroborating the story, a politician from the area, Mr. Ubani, revealed the incident took place in his constituency.
“In my constituency of Isiala Ngwa South, an angry mob went beserk yesterday destroying a morgue.
The morgue, Prince ‘O’ Mortuary located in Ndiolumbe Abia, incurred the wrath of the irate youths for allegedly indulging in the sacrilege of harvesting organs of the dead. Consequently, the youths burnt the morgue and ambulances.”
Efforts to get the police comment on the incident was not successful.
