
Nigeria’s Offiong Edem, today, July 30, defeated her English opponent, Maria Tsaptsinos to the quarter-final ticket in the women’s singles at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
She won 3-1 (4-11, 11-9, 13-11, 12-10).
However, she alongside Fatima Bello lost to Charlotte Bardsley and Maria Tsaptsinos in three sets (11-6, 11-8, 14-12) in the women’s doubles event.
Team Nigeria ladies produced a stunning 2-2 comeback against England but eventually bowed out 3-2.
And in the other singles, Ojomu Ajoke lost 11-6, 7-11, 8-11, 11-3, 9-11 to Bardsley.
Nigeria men’s team top Group C after brushing aside Cyprus 3-0 in the team event.
