Senator Gershom Bassey

The senator representing Cross River South in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Gershom Bassey has reacted to the looting and vandalization of his house in Calabar by hoodlums.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported that last week, hoodlums went on rampage in Cross River State, looting and vandalizing private and public properties, including that of the senator.

Reacting to the incident, the senator said his house was not badly damaged and that recoveries of the looted properties are being made.

He said: "We are still assessing the extent of damage but today, a number of those things are being recovered. My house was not badly damaged but we are recovering them, we are assessing them.

"We need to strive towards good governance. It is good governance that would deliver these dividends of democracy, so for us in the National Assembly, we must continue to play our role in order to ensure that the executive delivers the dividends of democracy. Dividends such as employment etc. We must create wealth for our people."
