Hon. Jarigbe Agom

A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Jarigbe Agom has refuted reports that he is nursing ambition to run for senate to represent Cross River North Senatorial District following the death of the former occupant of the position, Dr. Mrs. Rose Oko on Monday, 23rd March in a in UK medical facility after a protracted illness.

Soon after the death of Late Senator Oko was made public, there were insinuations and social media posts suggesting that he (Jarigbe) has declared intention to replace her and that he is the favoured aspirant by the Peoples Democratic Party and Governor Ben Ayade to take over the coveted seat.

An apparently angry Jarigbe said
“I am surprised that people are so insensitive to the plague that has befallen the whole world, with thousands of people dying from coronavirus. A lot of us are not perturbed by the death of other people, not even our Leaders.

Continuing, he said “Who in Cross River State is richer and more powerful than Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari? Where is he at the moment? No man is invincible and no one knows the next minute”.

He advised those agitating for him to run for the position to put the issue in abeyance, saying that he doesn’t want anyone to mention his name on Facebook or anywhere for  Senate.

” I have a mandate and I want to concentrate on delivering on this mandate as member of the House of Representatives. It’s not the status that matters but the disposition to rendering Service selflessly. We cant have that disposition if our primary objective is to hold bigger positions for pecuniary benefits. Would anyone say I haven’t achieved because the House of Representatives is a small Office? Capital NO. On that note, please let’s honor our departed Senator and show her love even in death. Those who are in a hurry to replace her can do so but pls keep me out. May the Soul of the departed rest in peace”. He added.
