The Cross River State government has declared today, Monday, 2nd December, 2019 as public holiday. This, according to the Special Adviser to Gov. Ben Ayade on Media and Publicity, Mr. Christian Ita, “is to usher in the annual Calabar Carnival”.

In a release in the early hours of Monday, Mr. Ita said “All public institutions except schools and banks are to remain closed while workers and all residents in the state prepare fully to take part in this special celebration that is designed to draw the consciousness and attention of the entire world to this year’s carnival with the theme, ‘HUMANITY ‘.

It reads in full:
“In exercise of the powers conferred on the Governor to declare any day as public holiday by virtue of S. 2 (1) of the Public Holiday’s Act, CAP 378 Laws of the Federation 1979 (As Amended), the Governor, Sir Ben Ayade has declared today 2nd Dec. 2019, as public holiday in Cross River State.

This declaration is consistent with the well established culture since 1999 of work free month from 1st Dec. to 31st Dec. to usher in the annual Carnival Calabar celebration.
In view of yesterday being Sunday ( a non dies day), today 2nd of Dec. is therefore declared a work free day across the state.

All public institutions except schools and banks are to remain closed while workers and all residents in the state prepare fully to take part in this special celebration that is designed to draw the consciousness and attention of the entire world to this year’s carnival with the theme, ‘HUMANITY ‘

Normal working activities are to resume across the state on Tuesday 3rd December 2019.
Signed,
Christian Ita
